Neurofeedback Therapy

If you’re in BC and exploring neurofeedback therapy for ADHD, anxiety, chronic pain, or other brain health concerns, Elumind’s mental health clinic is serving metro Vancouver and Okanagan communities. As a non-invasive, science-based therapy that trains your brain to function more efficiently, neurofeedback offers lasting results without medication, and we’re bringing this technology closer to you.

What is neurofeedback?

Neurofeedback is a form of biofeedback that teaches your brain to self-regulate. Through real-time monitoring of your brainwave activity, neurofeedback provides immediate feedback that helps your brain learn healthier patterns. Think of it like physical therapy for your brain, you’re strengthening neural pathways and building new, more adaptive responses.

During a session, sensors placed on your scalp measure your brainwave activity while you watch a movie or listen to music. When your brain produces desired patterns, you receive positive feedback (the movie continues smoothly, the music plays clearly). When your brain slips into less optimal patterns, the feedback changes (the screen dims slightly, the audio becomes less clear). Your brain naturally learns to maintain the beneficial patterns.

This process is completely non-invasive and painless. You’re simply watching, listening, and allowing your brain to learn. Over time, these new patterns become automatic, the changes persist long after your sessions end.

Why BC residents choose neurofeedback

BC’s growing community of over 5,000,000 residents includes families, professionals, students, and retirees, all seeking effective solutions for mental health and brain performance challenges. Traditional treatments don’t work for everyone, and many people are looking for alternatives that don’t involve long-term medication or talk therapy alone.

Neurofeedback appeals to BC residents because it:

  • Addresses root causes: Rather than just managing symptoms, neurofeedback retrains the brain’s underlying patterns
  • Requires no medication: An important option for those who can’t tolerate medications or prefer drug-free approaches
  • Creates lasting change: Once your brain learns new patterns, the benefits typically continue without ongoing treatment
  • Works for multiple conditions: ADHD, anxiety, chronic pain, sleep issues, depression, and more can all respond to neurofeedback
  • Complements other treatments: Neurofeedback works well alongside therapy, medication, or lifestyle changes.

Conditions we treat with neurofeedback

ADHD and focus challenges – Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder affects both children and adults, impacting work performance, academic success, and relationships. Neurofeedback has decades of research supporting its effectiveness for ADHD. It helps strengthen the brain’s executive function networks, improving focus, impulse control, and task completion.

Many of our clients report being able to concentrate longer, complete projects more efficiently, and feel less mentally scattered. For children, this often translates to better grades and fewer behavioral issues. For adults, it means improved productivity and less daily frustration.

Anxiety and stress-related conditions – Anxiety disorders are among the most common mental health challenges, affecting work, relationships, and quality of life. Whether you experience generalized anxiety, social anxiety, panic attacks, or specific phobias, neurofeedback can help calm an overactive nervous system.

Neurofeedback training teaches your brain to shift out of anxious states more easily. Clients often describe feeling calmer, less reactive, and more resilient to stress. The physical symptoms of anxiety, racing heart, shallow breathing, muscle tension, typically diminish as your brain learns to regulate itself more effectively.

Chronic pain management – Chronic pain is exhausting and isolating. Whether you’re dealing with fibromyalgia, migraines, back pain, or nerve pain, the constant discomfort affects every aspect of life. Research shows that neurofeedback can help reduce pain intensity and improve pain tolerance by changing how your brain processes pain signals.

Many chronic pain sufferers have found that neurofeedback reduces their reliance on pain medications and improves their overall function. While neurofeedback isn’t a cure for all pain conditions, it can be a valuable part of a comprehensive pain management strategy.

The Elumind Approach: How We’re Different!

Elumind has been serving British Columbia since 2017, and we’ve become Canada’s leading brain health clinic by combining cutting-edge technology with personalized care. When you work with Elumind, you’re not just getting neurofeedback sessions, you’re getting a comprehensive brain health assessment and a customized treatment plan.

Advanced qEEG brain map – Every client begins with a quantitative EEG (qEEG) brain map. This is a detailed analysis of your brain’s electrical activity across different regions and frequency bands. We measure your brainwaves while you’re at rest and during various tasks, then compare your results to normative databases.

Your qEEG brain map shows us exactly what’s happening in your brain. We can see areas of overactivity or underactivity, identify dysregulated networks, and understand the neurological basis for your symptoms. This information guides your entire treatment plan, we’re not guessing or using a one-size-fits-all approach.

Personalized neurofeedback protocols – Based on your qEEG results, symptoms, goals, and medical history, we design neurofeedback protocols specifically for you. We target the exact brain regions and frequencies that need training. Throughout your treatment, we continuously monitor your progress and adjust protocols as your brain changes.

This level of customization is what produces results. Your brain is unique, and your treatment should be too.

Experienced Clinical Team – Elumind mental health clinic team includes neurofeedback specialists, registered clinical counsellors, and brain health experts. Every clinical member has extensive training in neurofeedback brain training. You’ll work with the neurotechnicians throughout your treatment, building a relationship and ensuring continuity of care.

What to expect: Your neurofeedback journey

1. Free Phone Consultation – Your journey begins with a complimentary 15-minute phone consultation. We’ll discuss your concerns, answer your questions about neurofeedback, and determine if you’re a good candidate for this therapy. There’s no pressure, this conversation helps both of us decide if Elumind is the right fit for you.

2. Therapeutic assessment and qEEG brain map – If you decide to move forward, you’ll come to our mental health clinic for a comprehensive assessment. This includes:

  • Detailed health history, symptom review, and discussion of your goals and treatment expectations
  • qEEG brain map session (about 60 minutes)

The qEEG brain map itself is simple and comfortable. We place a cap with sensors on your head, and you sit quietly with your eyes open, then closed, for several minutes. The sensors only measure your brain’s electrical activity, nothing is being put into your brain.

3. Treatment Plan Presentation – Within a week, you’ll return for a detailed review of your qEEG results. We’ll show you exactly what’s happening in your brain, explain how it relates to your symptoms, and present your personalized neurofeedback treatment plan. You’ll understand what we’re targeting, why, and what outcomes you can expect.

Most clients complete 40-50 neurofeedback sessions, though this varies based on your condition and goals. Sessions are typically scheduled 2-3 times per week and last about 50-90 minutes.

4. Neurofeedback Training Sessions – During each session, you’ll sit comfortably in a private room while sensors measure your brainwave activity. You’ll watch a movie or show of your choice, or listen to music. The screen brightness or audio clarity changes based on your real-time brainwave patterns, this is the feedback that teaches your brain.

Most people find sessions relaxing. There’s no effort required on your part, your brain does the learning automatically. Many clients use sessions as a peaceful break in their busy schedules.

5. Progress Monitoring and Adjustments – We track your progress carefully, both through session data and regular check-ins about your symptoms. As your brain changes, we adjust your protocols to continue optimizing results. Some clients notice improvements within a few sessions; for others, changes emerge more gradually over weeks.

With clinics in North Vancouver, Surrey, and Kelowna, Elumind is accessible to BC residents from across the province, wherever you’re coming from, one of our locations is closer than you think. We understand that travel takes time and planning, so our team works with you to schedule appointments in clusters, reduce unnecessary trips, and make your treatment journey as seamless as possible, including coordinating same-day schedules for families.

Investment in your brain health

Neurofeedback is an investment in long-term brain health and quality of life. Many extended health insurance plans cover our services. We provide detailed receipts for insurance submission. We also offer flexible payment plans to make treatment accessible.

When considering cost, remember that neurofeedback creates lasting changes. Unlike medication that requires ongoing prescription costs, or weekly therapy that continues indefinitely, neurofeedback works toward graduation. Once your brain has learned new patterns, the benefits typically continue without ongoing treatment.

Additional services to support your brain health

While neurofeedback is our primary focus, Elumind offers complementary services that can enhance your results:

Biofeedback – Heart rate variability (HRV) biofeedback teaches you to control your body’s stress response. This pairs beautifully with neurofeedback for anxiety, chronic pain, and stress-related conditions. Many clients benefit from combining both modalities.

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS therapy) – For depression that hasn’t responded to other treatments, TMS offers a non-invasive option. This therapy uses magnetic pulses to stimulate specific brain regions involved in mood regulation. TMS therapy is backed by extensive research and approved by Health Canada.

Photobiomodulation (Advanced PBM) –PBM is a non-invasive light therapy that uses LEDs to deliver targeted visible and near-infrared light, stimulating the body’s natural tissue healing processes. At Elumind, we specialize in harnessing PBM to support the treatment of a wide range of psychological and neurological conditions.

Counselling and Psychotherapy – Our registered clinical counsellors provide evidence-based therapy for depression, anxiety, trauma, and relationship issues. Combining neurofeedback with counselling addresses both the neurological and psychological aspects of mental health challenges.
