If you’re living with chronic pain in BC and feel like you’ve tried everything, medications that don’t work or come with side effects you can’t tolerate, treatments that provide temporary relief but never address the root cause, you’re not alone. Chronic pain affects nearly one in five Canadians, and it’s one of the most common reasons people in BC seek alternative therapies.
At Elumind Centres, we take a different approach. Instead of just managing symptoms, we work directly with your nervous system to change how your brain processes pain signals. Our clinics in North Vancouver, Surrey, and Kelowna serve clients with evidence-based therapies like neurofeedback, biofeedback, and tDCS that have helped hundreds of people reduce chronic pain and reclaim their lives.
What is chronic pain and why does it persist?
Chronic pain is defined as pain that lasts longer than three months, often persisting long after an injury has healed or without any clear physical cause. It can show up as:
- Back and neck pain from old injuries, poor posture, or degenerative conditions
- Joint pain from arthritis or repetitive strain
- Nerve pain (neuropathy) from diabetes, shingles, or injury
- Migraines and chronic headaches
- Fibromyalgia – widespread pain with fatigue and sleep problems
- Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS)
What many people don’t realize is that chronic pain isn’t just about damaged tissue. Over time, your nervous system can become hypersensitive, your brain amplifies pain signals even when there’s no ongoing injury. This is called central sensitization, and it’s why chronic pain often doesn’t respond well to painkillers or surgery alone. At Elumind, we help clients who are struggling with Fibromyalgia, Migraine, and Chronic Headache.
The brain’s role in chronic pain
Your brain doesn’t just receive pain signals, it interprets, amplifies, or dampens them based on patterns learned over time. In chronic pain, the brain’s pain-processing networks become overactive. Stress, poor sleep, and emotional distress make this worse, creating a cycle that’s hard to break.
This is why brain-based therapies work so well for chronic pain. By teaching your nervous system to regulate itself differently, we can reduce pain intensity, improve your resilience to pain flare-ups, and help you function better day-to-day.
How we treat chronic pain at Elumind
Our Pain Program is designed specifically for people with Fibromyalgia, Migraine, and Chronic Pain who haven’t found lasting relief through conventional treatments. We use non-invasive, evidence-based therapies that work directly with your brain and nervous system.
Quantitative EEG (qEEG) brain map
Every client in our Pain Program starts with therapeutic assessment and a qEEG brain map, a detailed assessment that measures your brain’s electrical activity and identifies patterns associated with chronic pain. This isn’t guesswork. The qEEG shows us exactly where your brain is overactive or underactive, and how that’s contributing to your pain experience.
The QEEG brain map takes about 50 minutes and is completely non-invasive. The data we collect becomes the foundation of your personalized treatment plan.
Neurofeedback therapy
Neurofeedback is the core of our pain program. It’s a form of brain training that uses real-time feedback to help your brain learn healthier patterns. During a session, sensors are placed on your scalp to monitor brainwave activity. You watch a video or play a simple game, and when your brain produces patterns associated with less pain and better regulation, you get immediate positive feedback.
Over time, typically 30-40 sessions, your brain learns to sustain these healthier patterns on its own. Research shows neurofeedback can significantly reduce chronic pain intensity, improve sleep, and reduce reliance on pain medications.
Biofeedback
Biofeedback trains you to control physiological responses that affect pain, like muscle tension, heart rate variability, and breathing patterns. Many people with chronic pain hold tension in their bodies without realizing it, which amplifies pain signals. Biofeedback makes these patterns visible and teaches you how to change them.
We use biofeedback alongside neurofeedback to give you more tools for managing pain in real-world situations, during a stressful day at work, before bed, or when you feel a flare-up coming on.
Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS)
tDCS is a non-invasive brain stimulation therapy that uses a gentle, low-level electrical current to influence activity in targeted areas of the brain. During a session, small electrodes are placed on the scalp to deliver a controlled electrical current. The stimulation is designed to support the brain’s natural ability to adapt and reorganize, a process known as neuroplasticity.
Over a series of sessions, tDCS may help regulate brain networks involved in pain processing and support healthier patterns of brain activity. Research suggests that tDCS may help reduce chronic pain intensity and may also support improvements in areas such as mood, sleep, and cognitive function. Treatment protocols, including the number and frequency of sessions, are personalized based on each individual’s needs and response to treatment.
What makes Elumind different
You have options for pain management such as pain clinics, physiotherapy, acupuncture, chiropractic care. So why should come to Elumind for treatment?
We treat the nervous system, not just symptoms
Most pain treatments focus on the site of pain, your back, your knee, your head. We focus on the source: your nervous system. By retraining how your brain processes pain, we can create lasting changes that go beyond temporary relief.
Personalized, data-driven treatment
Your qEEG brain map ensures your treatment is tailored specifically to your brain’s needs. We’re not guessing. We’re targeting the exact neural patterns that are keeping you stuck in chronic pain.
Non-invasive and medication-free
You don’t have to choose between pain and side effects. Neurofeedback, biofeedback, and tDCS are completely non-invasive. There are no drugs, no needles, no surgery. And for many clients, these therapies reduce or eliminate the need for pain medications over time.
Proven results
Our clinic has been helping BC residents overcome chronic pain since 2017. We’ve worked with thousands of clients who came to us after years of unsuccessful treatments, and the majority report significant improvements in pain levels, sleep quality, and overall function.

Step 2: Therapeutic assessment and qEEG Brain Map Session – Your first in-person visit includes therapeutic assessment and a comprehensive qEEG brain map. We’ll also review your medical history, current medications, and treatment goals. Therapeutic assessment takes about 90 minutes and the QEEG brain map session takes about 50 minutes.
Step 3: Personalized Treatment Plan – Based on your qEEG results, we’ll create a treatment plan that may include neurofeedback, biofeedback, and tDCS.
Step 4: Active Treatment (30-40 Sessions) – Sessions are 50-100 minutes. You’ll sit comfortably in a room while your brain does the work. Many clients describe sessions as relaxing, some even fall asleep. Progress is tracked throughout treatment so we can adjust protocols as needed.
